The 2021-22 Greek Basketball Championship is underway and we had the chance to welcome one of the most successful young Greek coaches of the league, Ioannis Kastritis of Aris B.C.

Kastritis played basketball with G.S. Arcadia, Arkadikos B.C and Panachaiki B.C. before starting his basketball coaching career as an assistant in Apoloniada. He was the assistant coach of Yannis Christopoulos at Olympias Patras B.C., in the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons, before moving on again as an assistant with Arkadikos from 2009 to 2012, eventually becoming the head coach of the club and achieving the promotion to the Greek Basket League, after finishing 2nd in the 2014–15 Greek A2 Basket League season. In the same year, he was voted as the coach of the year in the A2 Division, while he became the youngest coach to lead a team to a Greek Basket League promotion.
In 2016, he was appointed by Trikala Aries B.C. as the head coach of the team, leading the team to the best season of their history after they finished in the 10th place in the league, with a 10–16 record. Next season, Kastritis was appointed as the head coach of the Greek Basket League club Kymi B.C., followed by stints with Aris B.C. and Iraklis B.C. On January 27, 2020, Kastritis was named the new head coach of Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C. of the Israeli Premier League, while this season he has returned to Greece and to Aris B.C.
Kastritis was also the head coach of the Greek Under-19 national team, at the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, in which Greece finished in 10th place.
Coach talked about the challenges of the upcoming season, finally coming out of the restrictions of pandemic and the high level of competition that the Greek Basket League has this year with plenty of former NBAers like Tyler Dorsey, Toney Douglas, Jeremy Evans and Yogi Ferrell signing deals to play in Greece!
After six games, Aris was able to upset the reigning champs of the league Panathinaikos B.C. in a home game, while this last weekend the team managed an away win against one of the top teams of the league, Promitheas Patras B.C.
