“The Show” with a two-part soccer special ahead of the UEFA Champions League Final
Ahead of the biggest soccer game of the season, the UEFA Champions League, we celebrate this special event with the one and only Christos Sotirakopoulos, a longtime sportscaster who has attended multiple global events, as well as with Giorgos Karagounis, the most capped player in the history of the Greek national team with 139 appearances and the winner of the 2004 Euro 2004, together with longtime journalist and novelist Menios Sakellaropoulos, center court with Vasilis Skountis in another episode of “The Show”!

Christos Sotirakopoulos, an avid Liverpool fan, began working for the newspaper Apogevmatini in 1979 and in 1984 he undertook the co-presentation of ”Sports Sunday”, a popular Sunday night Greek soccer show together with Nikos Katsaros and Giannis Mamouzelos.
In 1994 he created the Center for Sports Reporting, a specialized school in sports journalism, the first school in Greece that dealt exclusively with the subject, while in 1996 he created the radio station SPORT FM 94.6 which will later be renamed SuperSPORT FM, NovaSPORT FM and today is called BwinSPORT FM 94.6. For 18 continuous years he led the station to the top of sports radios in Greece before leaving in the summer of 2014.
He has covered four World Cup Tournaments (1994, 1998, 2006, 2018) and seven Euros (1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012), while he started broadcasting UEFA Champions League matches from the 1994-95 season, covering the final of the tournament from 1995 to 2006 on television and from 2007 onwards on the radio.
Since 2010, in collaboration with his colleague and collaborator George Thanailakis, he has undertaken the description in the Greek version of the Pro Evolution Soccer series of football electronic games of the Japanese electronic games company Konami.
Giorgos Karagounis, a Greek former professional midfielder played for Apollon Smyrnis, Panathinaikos B.C. (where he won the Greek championship and the Greek Cup in the 2009-10 season), Inter Milan (where he won the Coppa Italia in the 2004-05 season), Benfica and Fulham. At the international level, he represented Greece between 1999 and 2014 and was a member of the UEFA Euro 2004-winning squad, while also representing Greece at the UEFA Euro 2008, the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the Euro 2012 and the the 2014 World Cup. With 139 appearances, he is the most capped player in the history of the Greece national team.
Menios Sakellaropoulos meanwhile is a Greek journalist and novelist. He has worked in journalism since the summer of 1979 when he began to write a column for the athletic daily, Fos, while still a high school student. He studied Law, but left to pursue a different path as a journalist and writer. He did his apprenticeship at the Athens daily newspapers Vradyni, Ethnos, Athlitiki, Sportime and Derby and then also began to work for television at the state channels ERA and Sport FM. Since 1992 he has been working for Mega channel. He is a member of the Journalists’ Union and the Pan-Hellenic Athletic Press Association.
