“The Show” with Two-Time Olympic Medalist Lefteris Petrounias

Two-Time Olympic Medalist, three-times World champion and six-time European medalist in artistic gymnastics Lefteris Petrounias, takes center stage at the Trace ‘N Chase court, opening up to Vassilis Skountis about the long road to success and the Tokyo 2020 games, the 2024 Olympics, the highs and lows, his friendship with Mohamed Salah as well as his future in the sport!

Petrounias grew up as a hyperactive child, and at the age of five, his mother brought him to the Panionios Gymnastics Club so that he could release his energy. His first major medal came when he competed at the 2011 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Berlin, at the age of 20, where he won a Bronze Medal on the rings. In April 2015, Petrounias participated in the 2015 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Montpellier, France where he also won gold during the rings final. In May 2016, he attended the 2016 European Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Bern, Switzerland where he secured a gold medal on the rings, scoring 15.866 points.
5739C263 DD96 4C29 97E7 C95FEEA490F8Petroulias was the first torch bearer for the Olympic torch relay after the flame was ignited at Olympia on April 2016. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he won the gold medal in this event with a score of 16.000. His gold medal was Greece’s first medal in the rings since Dimosthenis Tampakos won gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
4F2CB78E C5C5 41E2 9B94 5D2320279605At the 2017 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Romania, he secured his third European Championship Rings Title. In late 2017, Petrounias competed at the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal. During the Championships, Petrounias successfully defended his World Title on Rings. He tied the European record of 4 gold medals in European championships, held by the (now retired) athlete Jury Chechi from Italy. At the 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha, Petrounias successfully defended his title and earned his third world championship gold on Rings. He was named the Greek Male Athlete of the Year, for the years 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
