In Episode 5 of the YouTube Series “The Lost Tapes”, powered by Stoiximan, Vassilis Skountis sits down with two of the best big men in the history of Greek Basketball, EuroLeague champions Lazaros Papadopoulos and “Baby Shaq”, Sophocles Schortsanitis, in a very enjoyable conversation about all the things that connected them throughout the years, the ups and downs, the glory days with the Greek National Team and their major success against Team USA in the 2007 FIBA World Cup in Japan!
Lazaros played professionally for 18 years with Iraklis, Panathinaikos, Olympiakos, PAOK, Dynamo Moscow, BC Khimki, Real Madrid, Fortitudo Bologna and CB Gran Canaria. He won all major titles (2 EuroLeagues, 1 Uleb cup, 2 Greek Basket League Championships, 1 Greek Basketball Cup, 1 VTB League Championship), becoming well-known for his signature skyhook move and skilled passing in the low-post. A regular with the Greek National Team he won the gold medal in the 2005 EuroBasket while he was the runner-up of the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan after team Greece upset Team USA in the semifinals!
An All-EuroLeague First Team selection in 2011 meanwhile, Schortsanitis won the EuroLeaguet itle in 2014 with Maccabi Tel Aviv, and reached the EuroLeague Final in 2010 and 2011, while playing for Olympiacos and Maccabi, respectively. He was a member of the senior Greek national team that captured silver medal honours in the 2006 FIBA World Championshipand a bronze medal in the EuroBasket 2009. He was the 34th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the LA Clippers!
